Ryan The following e-mail has been received from Mr John F McCloskey, of Norfolk Massachusetts, who is looking for relatives in the area:
"I stumbled upon your website and was
excited to do so since my grandmother was born in Dripsey and I am constantly
searching for information about her and my heritage. For the past few
years, I have performed extensive genealogy research on my family and have
uncovered a great deal of information.
My grandmother, Elizabeth Leader Ryan,
was born in 1882 - the fifth child in a family of seven - to John Ryan
and Kate Leader. My most recent trip to Dripsey (in 1999) uncovered some
of my distant relatives still living in the area. Due to time
constraints and my unannounced visit, I was unable to meet with them. I
was able to identify at least one family member by the name of Tomas Ryan who,
I was told, was a local politician. In a previous visit (1978), I
actually met with one of my grandmother's cousins who lived in a yellow house
in the center of Dripsey.
The reason I tell you all this is that I
think it would be an interesting topic or idea for your local website to share
information from around the world of people who have family ties to Dripsey.
It is such a wonderfully beautiful yet relatively unknown place that I believe
it would be interesting to show the local residents how far the "Dripsey
family" has spread around the world. I have been in contact with
many Dripsey descendents from my family alone - reaching as far away as Australia
and California, U.S.
I would be interested to hear your thoughts
on this idea and I would be willing to share information about my family for
website material."
